10:10 Prayer Campaign

"Nothing seems to be too great, too hard, or too difficult for prayer to do"
JC Ryle, 19th century Bishop of Liverpool

10-10 campaign logoEvery year, thousands of children suffer horrific abuses after they are accused of bringing misfortune on their families and labelled as ‘witches'.
The 10:10 Prayer Campaign is a call for Christians everywhere to pray for an end to the suffering of these children and for them to be restored to their true identity.

Aristote was accused of being a 'child witch'. Read his story.

What is a so-called ‘child witch'?
Children labelled as ‘witches' are believed to be able to bring harm, such as illness, unemployment or even death. A child might be accused of being a ‘witch' and blamed for being the cause of misfortune if their behaviour does not fit the ‘norm'. This might include being lazy or very clever; shy or overly confident; wetting the bed, being undersized or having a disability.

What happens to children labelled as 'witches'?
Children may be subjected to physical abuse by parents, carers or church leaders to rid the child of the ‘evil spirit'. Many are then abandoned to the streets.

What can we do?
The 10:10 Prayer Campaign takes its name from the Bible verse in John 10:10, where Jesus says, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." (NIV)
Jesus' intention is to give every child a rich and satisfying life. We can pray for this to be a reality. We can pray for an end to accusations against children as ‘witches' and an end to the resulting abuse. We can pray that adults will treasure children as God treasures them.

You can pray individually, in a small group, or as a whole church. You can pray regularly or organise a special prayer event.
