Susie receiving award

Alternative Rich List Award

BCT Director Susie Howe has recently been honoured as one of three winners in Forum 3's 2009 Alternative Rich List Awards.
Forum 3 is the leading UK annual recruitment event for the not-for-profit sector. The Alternative Rich List's aim is to ‘identify people in society whose wealth is not defined by money but rather through the way they have enriched other people's lives'. Over 100 people were nominated by members of the public and a panel of experts shortlisted 10. The final 10 then went to a public vote. Thank you to all BCT supporters who voted for Susie.

Susie says:
"To be perfectly honest, I don't know why I was nominated for the Alternative Rich List! But it's a huge honour. There are thousands of people around the world who deserve to be recognised in this way, but no-one gets to hear about them. That's why I'm really happy to have been nominated. It gives me an opportunity to honour the work of the staff and volunteers of BCT's Partner Projects, who are working at the coalface with children in need in different African nations. They are the true, unsung heroes who work tirelessly to transform the children's lives for the better, in very difficult circumstances. It's the elderly grannies caring for multiple orphaned grandchildren, or the couple who choose to adopt some street children despite their own poverty, who truly deserve to be nominated for the Alternative Rich List award, and in a sense I feel that I am representing them."

This has been a great opportunity to raise the profile of BCT, and most importantly raise awareness of the need to remember and act on behalf of vulnerable children.
