The start of a new year is the perfect time to reflect on priorities. We all have things we’ve been putting off; things we meant to do but never managed. It might be a home gym gathering dust, a spare room in dire need of redecorating or a half-finished novel in a desk drawer. Or it might be something more significant – perhaps taking action on a big issue in your community or even overseas.
I suspect each of us can think of something we’ve been meaning to do but we didn’t, because we never got around to it.
Well, we are pleased to present you with a round tuit!
The Bible strikes a more serious note: ‘Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins.’ (James 4:17). Let’s make 2017 the year when we take that first step in doing the good we know we ought to do.
2016 was a disturbing year. Politics in the West has lurched towards extremism, with many people articulating a destructive racist narrative. The situation in Syria and Yemen seems almost beyond redemption. And the plight of the countless refugees around the world is heart-breaking. 2017 can be different, but only if we’re willing to act to make it different.
This year, will you take a specific step to make a specific situation better? Your prayers are powerful. Your money can make a huge difference to a struggling community. Your voice will be heard if you add it to the others crying out for change.
As for BCT, we will certainly act. As long as there are issues and attitudes which keep children on the margins, suffering and exploited, we will be committed to bringing change.
