Transform Disability
What is Transform Disability?
A distinctively Christian training resource addressing disability, designed to:
- teach church leaders about God’s heart for children with disabilities;
- challenge personal views and beliefs which marginalise children with disabilities;
- teach about causes and characteristics of common disabilities;
- give participants the practical tools to make their churches and communities places where children with disabilities can thrive and contribute.
Who is the resource for?
Transform Disability is aimed at groups of 15-30 church pastors, leaders and volunteers. It is also strongly recommended that each church attending a training should invite a person with disability to participate, as their input will be very valuable. The training is specifically aimed at churches in rural, resource-poor areas of Sub-Saharan Africa, but could be adapted to suit other contexts.
How is the resource structured?
The one-day awareness raising session is ideal to introduce the subject. The four-day course is ideal for trainers who are travelling, to avoid extra trips. The six-day course includes assignments between sessions and is well suited to trainers operating locally. Transform Disability includes a collection of supplementary resources, which give practical guidance about specific issues. These can be downloaded and used, independently of the main training resource.
